It was not clear why Kapusa was fired but his Facebook profile says he was fired on December 22 for expressing his freedom of speech.

A few months later, Kapusa claimed that he was banned from appearing on TV after criticising the broadcaster for focusing on programs that attacked opposition politicians.

In January 2018, Axed Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) presenter Geoffrey Kapusa disclosed that he was fired because of his stand against propaganda by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on the state broadcaster.

Kapusa disclosed that he faulted how MBC media practitioners were being used to advance the agenda of the ruling DPP.

Later, The Industrial Relations Court (IRC) ordered Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) to pay its former employee Geoffrey Kapusa K5.1 million for unfair dismissal.

IRC chairperson Austin Msowoya, ruling on MBC’s motion to review an earlier order of assessment delivered on January 26, 2022 by the then IRC assistant registrar, gave the public broadcaster 10 days to make the compensation.
